Have you already made that big purchase but you are not sure what to do with those cute critters that were dropped off and stay far away in the field and won’t come close? Or maybe you have had some animals for a while and you are frustrated with trying to get them to do what you want? Is haltering, leading, doing vaccinations or trimming feet always a struggle? Think about scheduling one of our workshops here at the farm. As a CAMELIDynamics™ Senior Consultant**, let me show you how using effective handling skills, tools and techniques make working with these animals a joy. Skill levels vary from learning how to approach and become familiar with llamas and alpacas to working with individual animals and training. Intorductions to Llamas and Alpacas 100 - 2 hour session ‐ $50 per person No Prerequisite: Participants need no prior experience with llamas or alpacas. Learn basic behavioral, physical, and health facts about llamas and alpacas. Get information on how you can live the lama lifestyle by owning llamas or alpacas on your own farm or agisting (boarding at another farm). Get up close and personal! Learn the proper way to meet and greet a llama or alpaca and spend some time with individual animals. |
Basic Handling 101 - 3 hour session ‐ $75 per person Prerequisite: Participants should already have a basic knowledge of llamas and alpacas. No hands-on experience is necessary. Increase your understanding of llamas and alpacas and their specific health and welfare needs. Learn how to set up your facility for effective management. Use training aids and confinement rather than restraint to more effectively herd and catch your animals. Understand how halter fit and the way you put the halter on and off is crucial to your animal’s well‐being and can affect their behavior. . |
Advanced Handling 201 - 3 hour session ‐ $75 per person Prerequisite: Participants should have a basic working knowledge of llamas and alpacas and have significant hands-on experience. We reserve the right to go back to Basic Handling 101 if deemed necessary before moving onto more advanced work. Learn to make the catch pen work for you and your animals. Use the natural behaviors of the animals as well as tools and techniques to help you build on catching and haltering for greater effectiveness and less stress. Use a lead rope as a means of communication with your animal, rather than a way of dragging them from place to place. Acquire the details on giving injections, administering medications, and doing toenails without the fight. |
Basic Training 301 -3 hour session ‐ $75 per person Prerequisite: Participants should have good working knowledge of llamas/alpacas and have significant hands-on experience. We reserve the right to go back to Basic Handling 101 or Advanced Handling 201 if deemed necessary before moving into training. Expand your knowledge of the basics of behavior and what is involved in actually training an animal for specific behaviors. Recognize the signs of stress and how to mitigate them. Know when your animal has “got it” and you can move on and also when to quit! Set up your facility to train animals for success. Practice with individual animals on training exercises such as leading, loading or doing agility maneuvers. |
Private Consultation on your farm 401 $35 per hour with a 2 hour minimum, plus travel costs over 30 miles (standard mileage rate) and overnight costs if necessary for longer distances. Set up a visit to your facility for private consultations about your farm issues/ trouble shooting. Learn to set up your facility to improve or enhance your herd management. |
